Summer Wrap Up!

What can I say? I have had the summer of a lifetime. The experience to be The Cape's first ever It Girl was an honor. I am so thankful to everyone at Cape Breton Radio for all of their support and especially their encouragement to always get out there, have fun and be myself! My eyes have been opened to the beautiful Island that I call home. The people of Cape Breton are truly one of a kind.. and I cannot thank everyone enough for all their positive feedback and for making this a summer I will never forget. Monday, September 7th will be my last day cruising in the summer cruiser and I am sad to see my summer as the It Girl go.. but I am looking forward to the Fall when I will return back to school here at CBU. But also because I will be starting my new position here at 94.9 The Cape as the On-air Co-host of the Morning Show with Bill Bradley!!! I am thrilled for such an amazing opportunity and hope that you will all tune in to support me once again! Thank you again and remember to keep it on 94.9 The Cape.. The best station there is xoxo :)

Hot Tub Party!!

I am soooo excited because on Monday I went into Oak Hall, who have been providing me with the hottest fashions!! I was so thrilled to check out their amazing fall fashion line!They have coats for both winter and fall, sweaters, knits, stylish jeans that are so comfortable and all the accessories that any girl could ever need! They have outfitted me from top to bottom and from Summer right into the Fall. Tuesday, I headed over to Gloss Salon and Spa where I have been pampered all summer long! I had my hair lightened by Ms. Korri White, who is so amazing! Beach Partyyyy!!

Yesterday, Saturday August 22nd, 94.9 The Cape along with the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service hosted an awesome Beach Party!! It was the perfect day for fun in the sun.. It was 29 degrees, but a light breeze off the Mira kept us happy! All the kids at Mira Gut Beach had a blast with the bubbles, the sand castle competition and the scavenger hunt was so much fun! We had lots of treats and prizes for everyone who took part in the activities! A special thank you to Doug, Melissa, Jackie, Matt and Luke!! We had a really fun day at 94.9 The Cape & Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service Summer Beach Party!!:)

Sydney's Action Week!!

I had soo much fun this year at Action Week!! Being the It Girl, I was able to attend all of the coolest events!! The Buskers were so funny and entertaining! And Lindsay from our Promo Squad was lighting up the night at the Action Week Light parade, she took the Honda Fit and paraded around Sydney!! And my favorite part of Action Week was all the activities with the kiddies!! And I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to Co-host ROCK THE DOCK with Bill Bradley :)It was so much fun! I met all the bands that were playing on Friday night, like Dr. Hook, Harlequin, Forever and Gone Country! So many fun things to do if you’re in Cape Breton this weekend! Seaside Daze is happening in Dominion and Coal Dust Days are wrapping up in New Waterford! Not to mention that the TALL ships have sailed into Louisbourg! I made my over to see them and it was well worth it, they are so beautiful and historic! They will be sailing into Sydney and our very own Jenna Chisholm from MAX 98.3 will be aboard one of the ships along with the Max Man Jason MacDonald! I am sure they will be having fun!! Saturday is our much awaited ACDC air guitar contest! One lucky winner will be getting tickets to the concert, rental car, hotel and spending money. Its going to be a blast so make sure to come on down to Charlotte St. and witness the fun for yourself!!

Being from NewWaterford, I am thrilled that I was able to hit up all of their fun filled events in my Cape Cruiser, stocked with goodies from Subway, Old Dutch, Cape Breton Beverages and our Instant win Stickers!! We, the Cape Breton Radio Summer Team took part in the Coal Dust Days Parade, which was so much fun! We passed out all of our treats and I think everyone in New Waterford received a Sticker, which makes me very happy :) I also made my way to their pancake breakfast, guitar hero contest and of course the beautiful fireworks!! Cape Breton Dragon Boat Festival 2009

I had such a great time this past Saturday, July 19th!! I was down on the Sydney Waterfront announcing the Cape Breton Dragon Boat Festival!! Along with some wonderful guys, Chris, Bob and Larry, I learned many new things and met some pretty great people! As the announcers of this wonderful festival, I read bios on each entered team, and was able to let everyone know who leading and making their way to becoming the winners of the 2009 Dragon Boat Races! I had a blast, and because 94.9 The Cape was a major sponsor of this event I was lucky enough to get this opportunity! Special thanks to MaryBeth for everything!

Cruising Around the Week of July 15th

Hi Everybody!! Keeping myself busy as always with all of our local festivals gearing up for great summer fun! This week I found myself at some of the island’s most fun festivities! Summerfest in Glace Bay had all sorts of great activities happening like.. Entertainment in town square! All kinds of different bands were lined up and I really enjoyed bopping to their music as I passed out our Cape freebies, like Old Dutch Chips, Ice Cold drinks from Cape Breton Beverages and Fresh Subway cookies!! And all summer, I will be stopping by the FUN VAN! Where kiddies go to keep active and have fun during the summer break! We always bring nice treats for them and love joining in with their games! And on Friday, I experienced my first ever “Day in the Bay.” It was a day of fun, music, side walk sales and we of course had to stir things up a little, so we set up a Stick It to Win contest, where several residents battled out for tickets to see Matt Minglewood!! It was so much fun to see them running through the streets trying to stick our instant win Stickers on people’s cars.. with their permission of course! Keep listening and who knows you could be our next Cape Instant winner!!!

Nothing says summer like hot weather and BBQ’s, and there has been lots of both this summer, which makes me a happy girl  You have probably been hearing a lot about Table Head Days in Glace Bay.. it’s a small town festival ran by the friendly people of Table Head. Adam, one of our Cape Promo members was born and raised there, so you can bet we had fun this weekend when we cruised out to their Community Walk and Family Picnic! We packed a lunch and brought our picnic blankets and set out to have a great day! We passed out tonnns of goodies from Cape Breton Beverages, Old Dutch and melt in your mouth Subway cookies! We played with the kids and gave away lots of our Cape Instant Win Stickers.. which will keep the folks of Table Head winning great prizes all summer long.. so make sure to pick one up for your car!! Then on Saturday, I cruised over to Reserve Mines’ Lambert Todd Days in my Honda Fit from Ramsey’s Honda  I went to the Jr. fire fighter’s competition and it was so fun!! The fire fighters were so friendly and really made it an enjoyable afternoon. There were different events, like the Hose Roll and the Obstacle Course! The kiddies loved that and because it was so HOT on Saturday they also loved the ice cold drinks that I had in my cape cruiser!! And even though I received a couple of good “accidental” hose sprays, I really didn’t mind because I was sunburned from sitting in the sun!! I gave away prizes and pop courtesy of Cape Breton Beverages!!

Today, Sunday, we did our STICK IT TO WIN!! Myself along with the Summer Promo Squad headed up to Mi’kmaq Gas and Convenience to give away FREE Gas cards, and to stick our new stickers the cars of those who love to win!! And it went over really well because I mean come on, who doesn’t love to win great prizes? Look for us because we will be Sticking up at Mi’kmaq Gas every so often this summer!! Keeping Busy at the Cape :)

Well, the summer is in full bloom and I am attending so many awesome events happening in our area! Many of the festivals going on in our area, I was unfamilliar with, but have come to learn that if it's happening in Cape Breton, it has got to be fun!! This weekend passed, I made my way to Millville, where they held their annual Millville EggFest!! It was so much fun! They had a delicious egg breakfast for the more than 1,025 people who showed up to taste the Eyking eggs! They also had hayrides, facepainting and entertainment for all. Also, on Saturday I visited the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy on the Sydney Boardwalk! Myself along with Jenna our MAX rock chick and our awesome PROMO SQUAD Lindsay, Gerilyn and the ever so charming Adam participated in the walk and were truly touched by this important cause!
This week is Lambert Todd Days in Reserve Mines! This weekend coming up I will be very busy because Saturday is Grading Day! And the three Canadian Tire Stores in our area are giving away a brand new BIKE! Valued at over 400 dollars!! And also, the SPCA is having their annual DOG JOG at Neville Park in Whitney Pier! You can catch me there on Sunday.. It's looking like an eventful and fun summer is upon us! The weather is heating up and so are the activities going on around our community! Over the past week Ive been visiting lots of different events and having a great time :) I am gearing up for a jam packed weekend full of fun activities for young and old.. This friday, I will be on location with 94.9 the Cape at Emerald Isle! They are having a huge sale and all are welcome to come and check out the great deals! Also, Saturday I will be cruising all over in the Honda Fit from Ramsey's Honda attending the Glace Bay fishing Derby and BBQ, Two Rivers Wild Life Park's Trees for Tomorrow service,Yard Sale at the Sydney River Kinsmen Hall in Coxheath, a live 94.9 remote at Churches Grocery in Marion Bridge and Crohn's and Colitis Walk on the Sydney Boardwalk! Busy Day :D
On Sunday the Run for Awareness is happening at the South End Community Center at 10 am and a family BBQ in Grand Mira from 11am-1pm! At these events you can find me sampling ice cold drinks from Cape Breton Beverages, Chips from Old Dutch and delicious Subway cookies! Besides starting this amazing summer job here at Cape Breton Radio, 94.9 The Cape, I have been given over $10,000 in prizes from wonderful local businesses!! I have been given a summer of fitness from MOXHAM FITNESS in Sydney River (located just behind Don Cherry's) including my very own personal trainer, Jimmy Denato and a tanning package as well! Debbie Gwynn and her fitness team at Moxham's are so nice and have all the equipment anyone would ever need to get fit! I am so excited to get a head start on my summer tan at Moxham Fitness:)
I also will be sporting beautiful eyewear from BAY OPTICAL!Robert MacLeod and his staff have given me my pick of frames valued at $1000!!! They have gorgeous designer frames for young and old!! They gave me 2 pairs of amazing RayBan sunglasses! These include a beautiful classic frame called Jackie Ohh, after the fashionable Jackie Onassis. And the second pair are RayBan Aviators which are perfect for cruising around this summer or laying on the beach!!
On Wednesday, I was so excited to visit The Shoe Tree, who have generously given me $1000 of designer shoes! The selection available is incredible! They have the perfect fit for everyone :) I just couldn't choose, so Bruce and Liz are allowing me to take my time and pick the best styles for me! The staff is helpful and friendly. The Shoe Tree offers lots of different styles from sandals to rain boots for anyone looking to find the perfect shoe to wear back to school this fall!
Last Week I spent a relaxing morning at NATURAL SOLUTIONS SALON and DAY SPA! They pampered me like a queen! Sharon Mumford and her charismatic staff are so welcoming and really know their stuff! I had highlights put into my hair by Korri White, she is just fantastic! I will be in and out of Natural Solutions all summer indulging in all the treatments they offer!:)
Yesterday I spent the day with Meredith Martinello at OAK HALL! They have a new and absolutely beautiful line of clothes for young ladies such as myself! I was trying on everything in the store and had myself quite a time! The clothes that I went home with yesterday are unbelievable and of the highest quality! The selection and summer colors decorate the store. They have beautiful sun dresses by Kenzie, perfect for graduation parties, weddings or any summer outing! It was an amazing day at Oak Hall :)
After going on what felt like a complete shopping spree with the kind staff at OAK HALL, Meredith Martinello treated me to a make-up application and lesson! I was given the hottest make-up products from Cargo! Cargo's make-up which is sold at Oak Hall is amazing. It is so natural and fresh and they have so many color options for every skin type, even fair girls like me:) It was a blast to learn the latest application tips from a real pro! Oak Hall has so much to offer to my generation and ladies of all ages!

Hi Everyone:) Today is an exciting day because it is Tim Hortons Camp Day! Proceeds will go to fund camps so that all kids have the chance to experience what it means to have fun and explore the outdoors! Such a worthy cause!I will be helping in any way that I can today at Tim Hortons on Charlotte St here in Sydney and also on George St. If anyone is out and around today, pop into Tim's to grab a coffee or donut and contribute to the well being of kids in our area!!
Tomorrow, ACAP Cape Breton is having another 20 minute tidy around the town! It is Environment Week this week, so they are doing their part to help clean up Sydney and area and are asking that each one of us do our part as well! Myself, along with staff at cape breton radio will be taking part in this exciting task tomorrow, June 4th! It only takes a couple of minutes to make such a huge difference!

The Diary of an It Girl: Kelsea MacNeil

Monday, May 25th, 2009: My First Day.

I am over the moon excited about winning the It Girl contest and starting my job here with 94.9 The Cape! Last night at the finale, which was held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, the nerves were running on high as we, the Top 5 awaited the results. And when my name was announced I fell into a state of shock and excitement! Not only am I now faced with a wonderful package of prizes from many wonderful businesses but I started my “new job” today! This morning I woke up at 5:30am with adrenaline still fueling me to my on-air spot with Bill Bradley on “The Morning Show”. Bill is extremely good at what he does and he is even better at making me feel relaxed when my nerves get the best of me!
On the morning show we discussed the exciting summer that was before me and also the events of the night prior and my feelings about becoming Cape Breton’s very first “It Girl”, to which I could barely put into words! “I’m thrilled, honored and blessed” is what I came out with! Bill was also interested to see what I thought about the prize package and the sponsors of the It Girl, to which if I remember correctly, probably said, “I’m thrilled, honored and blessed!” Not hard to tell I was still flying on cloud nine, walking around with a permanent smile! The Morning Show was a lot of fun and started my first day off on the right foot!
After nine, I met up with Rebecca Cleary, the master mind behind this whole position! She then introduced me to everyone here at the Radio Building. I came to see that everyone was just as excited about the contest as I was, I also feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work with not only extremely talented folks but really truly kind people as well.
Around ten-thirty, I was then headed down Charlotte Street to have my very own photo shoot with Warren Gordon, the official photographer of the It Girl. What a fun morning I had with Warren! He took me to different locations on Charlotte St. to get some great shots! He really has a terrific eye for capturing a picture. After seeing the turn out of the photos I was so pleased with the results! Each picture was different and captivating in its own way. When lunch time rolled around, I couldn’t think of a better place to spend my dinner hour than at Boston Pizza! Best restaurant in town by far! They have fast lunchtime service and there is always a friendly face to greet you! It was delicious :)
My final affair of the day was meeting with Lionel Serroul to record for on-air, telling all about the wonderful businesses that I am so excited to have sponsoring me this summer! I will be telling all about them in the next couple of days, and giving a better idea of where I have been and their generosity! So keep it tuned to 94.9 and keep cruising the Cape with Kelsea xo
